Solskjaer sacked by Manchester United, brought in as interim coach

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager after a string of poor results.

The 42-year-old has overseen just seven wins from his 18 games in charge and the club’s disastrous run continued on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Crystal Palace.

United’s last three games are against sides in the top six with a trip to Tottenham and a home tie against Arsenal sandwiched between away trips to Chelsea and Everton.

The last two defeats at Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park, in the league and League Cup respectively, have seen United drop out of the top four.

“Manchester United has today announced that the club has parted company with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager,” said a club statement.

“Ole will be remembered with great affection for the part he played in the club’s history and he leaves with our best wishes.

“The football club will announce a new manager in due course.”

Solskjaer is the second person in a week to be relieved of his post after Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez was let go earlier this week.
